Born in Bremerhaven, West Germany, Jens Finck's martial arts journey began early in life. At the tender age of six, Jens set foot on a Tatami for the first time. Under the expert guidance of Michael Christakos, he initiated his martial arts education with Goju Ryu Karate. His thirst for knowledge saw him transition to study Wado Ryu Karate, learning from Sensei Manfred Schram.
The Pursuit of Mastery
Life led Jens to Heilbronn, where he found a small dojo that resonated with his passion for Wado Ryu Karate. There, he trained diligently under the watchful eyes of Shihan Walter Seidel and Sensei Manfred Schuster. Recognizing his dedication and expertise, in 2002, Jens was awarded the prestigious 5th Dan-Godan.
But Jens' martial arts expertise isn't confined to Karate. Alongside, he trained in Jiu-jitsu, earning a 2nd Dan-Nidan. His vast knowledge base extends to Judo and Aikido as well. Beyond the dojo, Jens served his country, imparting his martial arts wisdom as an instructor in the military.
In 2004, a new chapter began for Jens when he moved to the Charleston SC area. Eager to reconnect with his martial arts roots, he spent a decade between 2004 and 2014 exploring various Karate schools and styles in the US. His encounters with Kono Sensei, Suzuki Sensei, Mochizuki Sensei, Toyama Sensei, and Shiomitsu Sensei – all prominent European figures during his time there – enriched his understanding. It's a knowledge he enthusiastically shares with his students.
Expanding Horizons
Realizing the purity and depth of the traditional Wado Ryu Karate taught by Hironori Ohtsuka, Jens made a pivotal decision: he founded his own dojo. Here, he strives to teach Wado Ryu Karate in its authentic form. His goal is to offer children, teenagers, and adults a holistic approach to health and well-being through martial arts.
Since establishing his dojo in the US, Jens has celebrated numerous tournament successes. Through Dragon Karate School of Martial Arts, he endeavors to continue sharing the invaluable lessons of respect, discipline, and physical wellness with his students.
